Ang Mensahe!!!
'Ang Huling Pamamaalam'
MASAYANG kausap ni Mang Ben at ng kanyang tatlong tsikiting ang misis na si Aling Salve sa cellphone nang umagang iyon. Pangkaraniwan na sa pamilya ang araw-araw na pag-uusap sa cellphone. Isang kasambahay si Aling Salve sa bansang Kuwait at tanging sa cellphone lamang ang komunikasyon ng asawa’t mga anak rito.
“‘Nay, ‘yung sapatos ko na gagamitin ko sa pagsali ng liga ng basketball sa susunod na buwan, ‘wag mong kalilimutan, ha?” paaala sa kanya ng disi-sais anyos na panganay na si Rommel.
“‘Nay, ‘yung gagamitin ko ring damit para sa choir sa simbahan, huwag n’yo pong kalilimutan. Sa susunod na buwan na rin po iyon,” singit naman ng katorse anyos na dalagitang anak na si Pamela.
“‘Nay, miss ko na po kayo. Uwi na kayo,” sabad ng bunso niyang anak na si Bianca. Sampung taong gulang.
“O anak, wala ka bang ipabibili kay Nanay?” sagot ni Salve sa bunso. Deep inside, sobrang touch siya sa sinabing iyon ng bunso.
“Wala po. Ok pa naman po mga gamit ko. Saka, malapit na po ang pasukan. Saka na lang po ninyo ako bilhan ng bagong damit at sapatos, ‘Nay,” sagot ni Bianca. “Kailan po kayo uuwi?” dugtong nito.
Napabuntong-hininga mula sa kabilang linya si Aling Salve. Limang taon na rin siyang hindi nakakauwi ng Pinas. Laging nauudlot ang pagbabakasyon niya dahil sa magkakasunod na trahedyang sinapit ng mga amo niya. Kaya hindi siya pinayagan noong una na magbakasyon.
“Anak, konting tiis na lang at uuwi na si Nanay. Alam mo naman kung bakit ako nagtatrabaho dito sa ibang bansa, diba?” ang tanging sagot niya sa bunso.
“Ang tagal na namin kasi kayong ‘di nakakasama, ‘Nay. Ilang birthday ko na wala kayo. May handa nga, pero wala naman kayo. Malungkot pa rin.”
Nakunsensya siya sa tinuran ni Bianca. Tama naman kasi ito. Kahit bongga pa ang handaang ibigay niya sa mga anak tuwing sasapit ang kaarawan ng mga ito, iba pa rin ang presensiya niya bilang ina sa mahalagang okasyong iyon. Pero gustuhin man niyang umuwi, hindi siya mapauwi-uwi ng mga amo dahil kailangan siya ng mga ito. Nabaldado kasi ang mister ng amo niyang babae dahil sa car accident. At siya ang madalas na nakabantay rito. Dobleng pasanin para sa kanya. Ang kainaman lang nito, dinagdagan ng amo niyang babae ang kanyang sahod at nagpadala ito ng malaking halaga sa kanyang pamilya nang magipit sila sa pera. Bagay na tinatanaw pa rin niyang malaking utang na loob sa among babae.
“Hayaan mo, anak. Sa susunod na taon, tuloy na tuloy na talaga ang uwi ni Nanay,” ang tangi niyang pakunsuwelo.
Natuwa ang kanyang bunso sa sinabi niya. “Pangako ninyo ‘yan ‘Nay, ha?”
“Oo, anak. Pangako!”
“Yeheyyyy! I love you, ‘Nay.”
“Love you, ‘Nak.”
NANG sumunod na araw, masayang muling nakausap ni Aling Salve sa cellphone ang buong pamilya. Tapos na siya sa mga gawaing-bahay. Mabuti na lamang at hindi mahigpit ang mga amo pagdating sa paggamit ng cellphone. Katunayan, ang mga ito pa minsan ang nagsasabi sa kanya na tawagan ang mga mahal sa buhay. At lagi siyang binibigyan ng panload. Malaking bagay na iyon sa kanya. Kaya kahit mabigat ang trabaho niya araw-araw, okay lang. Sanay siyang magbanat ng buto. Huwag lamang siyang maltratuhin at pagmalupitan ng mga amo.
“‘Nay, pagod na ba kayo?” Ito ang bungad ng bunsong si Bianca nang ipasa ng mga nakatatandang kapatid rito ang cellphone.
“Bakit mo naitanong, anak?” sagot niya.
“Kasi araw-araw, wala na kayong ginawa kundi magtrabaho. Alagaan ang mga amo mo. Sabi ni ate Pamela, lumpo daw po ang amo mong lalake at ikaw lagi ang nagbabantay sa kanya. Diba nakakapagod ‘yun, ‘Nay?”
Naantig ang puso niya sa mga sinabi ng kanyang bunso. “Anak, hindi ako dapat mapagod. At walang mahirap kapag alam mong ginagawa mo ito para sa pamilya mo. Kaya ‘wag mo na akong intindihin, anak. Malakas si nanay, ‘di ba?”
“Kung nandito lang po kayo, hindi na kayo mahihirapan. Tutulungan namin kayo sa mga gawaing-bahay. Saka, ‘nay, ako na po ang naglalaba ng mga damit ko. Saka, tinutulungan ko si ate sa paglilinis at paghuhugas,” pagbibida ni Bianca.
Natuwa siya sa sinabi ng kanyang bunso. Kahit wala siya, natuto ang kanyang mga anak sa mga gawaing-bahay. Salamat sa kanyang mister na matiyagang nagturo sa mga ito ng mga responsibilidad sa loob ng bahay.
“Ang bait naman ng bunso ko. Hayaan mo, pag-uwi ni nanay, may gift ka sa’ kin.”
“Makasama ka lang namin ulit, ‘nay, gift na po sa’ kin ‘yun.”
Hindi na napigilan ni Aling Salve ang pagtulo ng mga luha sa huling sinabi ng bunso. Ramdam niya ang pangungulila nito sa kanya; sa yakap at haplos at ng isang ina. Lalo siyang naguilty sa anak.
“Hayaan mo anak, kaunting tiis na lang. Magkakasama na ulit tayo. ‘Di ba, nagpromise si nanay sa ‘yo?” ang tanging pakunsuwelo niya sa bunso.
ARAW ng linggo. Off ni Aling Salve at imbes na lumabas, minabuti niyang magpahinga na lamang sa loob ng bahay. Magluluto siya ng paborito niyang pagkaen at mag-isang kakaen. Lumabas kasi ang mga amo niya para sa weekly get-together ng parents at mga kapatid ng kanyang among lalake. Hindi na siya sumama pa na hindi naman tinutulan ng mababait niyang mga amo.
Ganadong nagluluto si Aling Salve ng Pinakbet nang mag-ring ang kanyang cellphone na laging nasa bulsa niya. Ang kanyang mister ang tumatawag. Dagli niya itong sinagot.
“O, ‘pang. Diba’t sinabi ko naman na ako na lang ang tatawag?” ang nagtatakang bungad niya sa mister. Mamamahalan kasi ito sa load kapag ito ang tatawag sa kanya.
“‘Eto kasing bunso mo, kanina pa ako kinukulit. Gusto ka raw niyang makausap. Kako hintayin na lang na ikaw ang tumawag. Kaso, mapilit.”
“Ganu’n ba? O siya, ibigay mo sa kanya ang cellphone.”
Ilang segundo lang ay ang tinig na ni Bianca ang narinig niya sa kabilang linya. Punong-puno ng sigla ang tinig ng kanyang bunso.
“‘Nay, kumusta na po kayo? Miss na miss ko na po kayo…”
Bahagya siyang natawa sa bungad ng anak. Paano’y kakakausap lang nila kahapon at kung umasta ito ay animo’y matagal silang hindi nagkakausap.
“Miss na rin kita, anak. Sabi ng tatay mo kinukulit mo raw siya. May gusto ka bang sabihin sa ‘kin, anak?”
“Wala, ‘nay. Gusto ko lang po sabihin na mahal na mahal ko kayo. Na sobrang miss ko na po kayo. Sana ‘nay, nandito po kayo ngayon sa tabi ko. Para yayakapin po kita nang mahigpit…”
Hindi na napigil ni Aling Salve ang pagtulo ng mga luha habang sinasambit ng anak ang mga katagang iyon. Kay sarap sa pakiramdam at sobrang natuwa ang kanyang pusong ina.
“Ako din, anak, sana kasama kita ngayon. Kayo ng mga ate at kuya mo. Miss na miss ko na kayo, anak,” ganti niya.

Magsasalita pa sana si Aling Salve, pero naputol na ang linya. Marahil ay ubos na ang load. Nagkataon namang mamaya pa siyang hapon makakalabas para magpaload.
